Kindergartners are learning what a folk song is from this old, familiar tune from England. They learned a little about the history of the song and we have discussed how a song can spread around the world. "Bingo" is fun to sing, but also a great study in beat and rhythm. The performers need to be able to audiate, or hear the song in their minds, in order to clap the correct rhythm for the missing letters in each verse.

This fun song is all about the musical concept of duration, or how long or short a sound is, and how that concept connects to sounds in the world around us. Students sing long and short notes, but also get to imitate the long and short sounds of objects and animals. This song also connects to one of the first units we did this school year on voice choice. In this song, students demonstrate the difference between a speaking voice in the rapped verses, and a singing voice in the chorus.

Kindergartners enjoyed learning this song as a part of a unit on the four instrument families: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. In this song, they get to pretend to play the instruments in each family. We will be collaborating with some older students who play these instruments!
