"Whenever I practice in a church (whether it's at St. John's or somewhere else), I always make sure to ask if anything is taking place in the church. We also have a small chapel with an organ, so I can almost always count on being able to practice there." -Br. Jacob Berns

"I don't eat food while I practice, especially if I'm singing. If I'm singing, I try not to eat food for a bit before singing so that my throat's clear. Especially sugary or dairy foods, those are good to avoid before singing." -Mikey Maiorana "I can't chew and practice at the same time, so I normally don't eat during a practice session. Afterwards, though, probably something with chocolate." -Br. Jacob Berns "I served for 6 months in the Middle East and traveled to many countries - Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, Afghanistan, & the United Arab Emirates. We were there to build connections with the Embassies and to perform in schools. While we carried weapons, our mission was to create friendships." -Shanti Simon Here's a video of me and Mandy! Melodica for me and violin for Mandy. We're playing these two songs:
-Mikey Maiorana "My favorite food is rice--it is delicious and can work well in main dishes, side dishes, and even desserts (think rice pudding!). Some of my hispanic friends recently introduced me to a rice drink called "horchata" which is one of my new favorite summer beverages!" -Br. Jacob Berns "Apples, especially when they're nice and crisp, and especially this time of year! You can eat them as a quick snack, or in a good dessert, or I like to cut them up and put them on oatmeal in the morning. I like that there's a lot of varieties, and I like going apple picking in the fall." -Mikey Maiorana "I hope lots of students can learn to play the organ! It helps to learn piano first (although it is somewhat different playing on an organ than a piano). If you're already comfortable with the keyboard, then it's time to find an organ teacher. Maybe someone who plays organ at a local church could give you lessons. I started organ at college, so I learned from a professor at St. John's University." -Br. Jacob Berns |
About the Question BoardThe Question Board is a whiteboard in the music classroom and/or an online form on which students can write any music-related questions they have. They can be questions that are unrelated to what we're doing in class, questions that I student prefers to ask anonymously, or questions for our house leaders. Follow this page to see the intriguing and wide variety of questions that students are asking! Archives
