"Drums were my first love - I would say that they are probably my favorite instrument. I also love bass instruments - especially very loud, low, bass synths. In the past I greatly loved the marimba, but hauling one around for gigs for 10 years has made me love it less." -Zack Baltich "Bass trombone is my favorite instrument to play, and its really hard to pick an individual instrument as a favorite - I want to answer with all the low voiced instruments, like cello, string bass, bassoon, bass clarinet, trombones, tuba - even piano has a really cool sound in the low range. An instrument alone is nice, but hearing them blend their sounds together is even cooler to me." -Brooklynne Audette "I love trombone. An oboe played beautifully is out of this world." -David McCarthy

"I haven't thought about this before. I believe my happy instrument is guitar because when I'm feeling happy the music I listen to has a lot of guitar melody to it. When I am feeling sad I don't listen to music, but piano or stringed instruments do well expressing what sad sounds like for me." -Brooklynne Audette "That's a good question. I think I associate the trumpet with happiness a lot. I think vocal music is good for when you feel sad." -David McCarthy "Hmm when I am sad I like synthesizers and drums, and when I am happy I like drums and marimba." -Zack Baltich "In someone's home." -David McCarthy "I like concert halls and churches or the Landmark center in St. Paul. These spaces really carry the sound far! Once I played at the Basillica in Minneapolis, there is a section at the front that had a 6 second resonance! I heard myself for 6 seconds echo up into the ceiling after I quit playing. It was incredible!" -Brooklynne Audette "I like to make music in places that weren't originally intended for it. I have played in caves, train tunnels, a 400,000 square foot abandoned paper mill, empty grain silos, and most recently accompanying 15 professional dancers in Union Depot train station in St. Paul (biiiig boomy room). I have a love for interesting acoustic spaces, and often like to write music specifically for these spaces." -Zack Baltich "This is a big question! I will try to answer it! I lived in Colorado until I was 10, and then California until I was 17. I had 2 cats and a dog. I had good grades, spent a lot of time in the library and liked to draw! Once I started band, I made a lot of new friends and had opportunities to do musical things more often! It was so much fun that I wanted to make sure music was a part of my life even it it wasn't my job." -Brooklynne Audette "Central Michigan University, University of Minnesota, and City University of New York (Graduate Center)" -David McCarthy "I went to Ely High School in Ely, MN, and Augsburg University in Minneapolis." -Zack Baltich "In Minnesota, I went to St Paul Central High School, and the U of M in the Twin Cities for college." -Brooklynne Audette "Hi Sawyer! I was born in Hollywood, California! Its fun to say that even though I do not remember anything about it. We moved to Littleton, Colorado when I was 3, and I lived there until I was 10, when we moved back to a very small town in California called Yucaipa. I didn't come to Minnesota until I was 17, where I finished High School at St Paul Central, and have lived here in MN ever since." -Brooklynne Audette "I grew up mostly around Lansing, MI, where I currently live. But I also have family ties to Minneapolis and New York. I've lived in both of those places, and I feel a bit of a home connection to each." -David McCarthy "I lived in Frisco, Colorado until I was 12, then moved to Ely Minnesota." -Zack Baltich |
