"Hmmm, when I was 12 the fantastic move School of Rock came out. That was around the time when I realized how much I like music, and this movie (starring 11 year olds playing in a rock band), really cinched it for me. I worked all summer, and bought a drumset that fall." -Zack Baltich "My insruments were all basically forced upon me either by my mother or by necessity. The only instruments I ever said I wanted to play were drums and trumpet. I can sort of get by on drums if necessary, but I'm helpless on the trumpet." -David McCarthy "I've mentioned that my mom made me join band, she also picked my first instrument for me, which was flute! Our school had a night where we all went to try out instruments before joining band in 6th grade. I tried trumpet, flute, and clarinet, but flute was the one I sounded best on my first try. I picked trombone later in 10th grade because my band didn't have any trombone players and I was bored with flute. Flute is still cool! It just wasn't for me. Trombone was also what I was interested in trying because I noticed in the music I was listening to, I didn't like the flute parts as much as I liked the brass and trombone parts. This is actually THE song that made me want to learn trombone."

"Hmmmm, music is highly introspective. Because of this, I have realized that I am very sensitive, empathic, and if I worked outside of music I would probably want to help people deal with emotions. I bet I would have gone into psychology." -Zack Baltich "Maybe run a hedge fund." -David McCarthy "I'd like to do some type of visual art, I almost went to college for art instead of music, and wanted to work as a 2D animator." -Brooklynne Audette "In 6th grade, my mom told me I was going to take band class. At that age, I wasn't choosing it for myself, but doing what I was told to do. I learned quickly that being in band and making music was fun! I made a lot of friends, and we were all working together for a similar goal of playing music together. After my first band concert, I made the decision to choose music and to keep getting better so I could keep playing songs with my friends and continue to see how good I could get at making music." -Brooklynne Audette "All the wrong reasons. I think I was drawn to it initially because I was blown away by the rock music my father played on the stereo in the car and in our living room. I have distinct memories of listening to early sixties "girl groups" like the Ronettes and the Shirelles on oldies radio and just having my world turned upside down. I remember my mother tried to play me a recording of some Renaissance music when I was very little, and I was appalled, yet somewhat intrigued. I wasn't experienced enough to interpret what I was feeling, but I definitely understood the power of music to move me. I remember deciding that I really liked country music, and being kind of proud of that, because it wasn't something my parents listened to, but then being told by my friends that country wasn't good. I didn't care, because I knew it was good, and that experience helped to make me into the contrarian I am today. I still don't listen to a lot of the music most of my friends listen to, and I still love country. I recently learned to perform "Coat of Many Colors" by Dolly Parton. Fortunately, many of my friends have learned to love Dolly Parton. But I beat them to it." -David McCarthy "I like Jolene." -Brooklynn Audette "I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE songs by Dolly Parton. I shared my arrangement of "Coat of Many Colors." I think my favorite song of hers might be "Jolene." I also really like "9 to 5," and want to get a group together to perform it. There are too many to name. Dolly Parton is one of the truly great American songwriters." -David McCarthy "I have been very interested in music for as long as I can remember. I remember wanting to know how to read it even before I had learned how to read English. When I was very young, before I had received any sort of musical training, I realized that that there were songs with different meters, and that made me realize that music was based in structures that could be uncovered if you listened carefully. I could also see that music was very important to my father, and that he had a great reverence for musicians, and I think that informed my attitude toward music. My mother had also kept a violin from her childhood, and even though she barely played it (she got into it again as I got older), it fueled my curiosity. I wanted to learn how to lead the a cappella singing at my family's church." -David McCarthy "My older brother was pretty good at playing keyboard, and I was frustrated that I couldn't play songs as easily as he could. I think this counts as being interested in music, since I was bothered about not knowing how to make music like he could!" -Brooklynne Audette "Always! I used to sneak a radio into my room at bedtime. And I remember buying my first ever cassett in 2nd grade" -Zack Baltich "Music keeps me grounded in the present moment, helps me reflect on the world around me, keeps me in touch with my emotions, and is just plain fun" -Zack Baltich "Many reasons. I love creativity, and music helps me understand creativity better. I also love to push my own boundaries and to see others push theirs, and music pushes people to do that. I love that music cultivates a profound humility in people who take it seriously. I love that it does not yield its mysteries easily." -David McCarthy "Music connects people together, its an artistic expression, and its fun!" -Brooklynne Audette "I play a lot of different kinds of music. The most common for me are: Classical, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Punk, Funk, Metal" -Brooklynne Audette "Classical, experimental, and jazz and other popular musics"
-David McCarthy "I could never choose. I do have a special fondness for country music." -David McCarthy "hard to say - I am not so much attatched to genre as I am to intention, which can be felt regardless of what the style is. I am looking for truth and empathy." -Zach Baltich "This is difficult to answer, I can't pick one type because there are so many things to enjoy in each genre. Spotify tells me my top listening habits are classical, jazz, pop-punk/rock, metal and video game music."
