"In 6th grade, my mom told me I was going to take band class. At that age, I wasn't choosing it for myself, but doing what I was told to do. I learned quickly that being in band and making music was fun! I made a lot of friends, and we were all working together for a similar goal of playing music together. After my first band concert, I made the decision to choose music and to keep getting better so I could keep playing songs with my friends and continue to see how good I could get at making music." -Brooklynne Audette "All the wrong reasons. I think I was drawn to it initially because I was blown away by the rock music my father played on the stereo in the car and in our living room. I have distinct memories of listening to early sixties "girl groups" like the Ronettes and the Shirelles on oldies radio and just having my world turned upside down. I remember my mother tried to play me a recording of some Renaissance music when I was very little, and I was appalled, yet somewhat intrigued. I wasn't experienced enough to interpret what I was feeling, but I definitely understood the power of music to move me. I remember deciding that I really liked country music, and being kind of proud of that, because it wasn't something my parents listened to, but then being told by my friends that country wasn't good. I didn't care, because I knew it was good, and that experience helped to make me into the contrarian I am today. I still don't listen to a lot of the music most of my friends listen to, and I still love country. I recently learned to perform "Coat of Many Colors" by Dolly Parton. Fortunately, many of my friends have learned to love Dolly Parton. But I beat them to it." -David McCarthy
