"Probably Sandbox. I wrote it a good while ago and it has been performed by several different kinds of groups: small swing band: https://danonkeys.com/.../SwingShift_20050807_Sandbox.mp3 jazz trio: https://danonkeys.com/.../20090327/20090327_15_Sandbox.mp3 jazz band: https://danonkeys.com/sickles/Sandbox/Sandbox.mp3 The Lux Quartet performed my piece Spider Walk: https://danonkeys.com/.../cq/daw-SpiderWalk-LuxQuartet.mp3 There's also Karkinos, a piece a music inspired by my dad's battle with cancer: https://danonkeys.com/music/karkinos.mp3 I also think I should include some film music. Here's something from Film Score Fest. If you look carefully you can see a certain teacher in there! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVyDUXdFDlk" -Dan Wheeler If you couldn't play any of the instruments or sing what you loved to, what would you sing or play?4/1/2022 "I think I'd have to go with the bassoon. It is objectively the most beautiful instrument to look at and to listen to. It has a great range. Also, I have never learned to play a double reed and I think that would be awesome." -Dan Wheeler "I LOVE tambourine! It brings out the joy in me. If I could wake up one day and play anything though, I think I would choose theremin. It sounds so mysterious and looks like you’re doing magic spells." -Nicole Wilder "Tambourine. Tambourine players just look so happy when they're doing it right. Here's an example of it done right." -Kyle Lamb "I have not, as stuttering is not something I've had to deal with in my life. However, as someone with ADHD, I frequently mix up the words I say, and it can sometimes cause my sentences to have the opposite meaning of what I intend. I'm constantly making sure that I say what I mean to, and not something else, and that applies to doing shows and concerts as well. If I have to say something at a concert, I try to write it out ahead of time and either memorize it or read it off the page. That way the audience hears what I want them to hear." -Kyle Lamb "Not exactly; however, I have run into many problems speaking during shows. Most memorably for me, I did a show where I played a song on the piano first, then grabbed the mic to introduce myself. I got out two words then couldn't talk because I had to cough which caught me by surprise. I turned away, coughed, then faced the mic again. This time I opened my mouth and couldn't speak again. I coughed into the mic and said "wow" way too loud directly into the mic. I tried to cough away from the mic again, then finally spoke very weakly into the mic. I just said something like "sorry about that, here's some music" and I went on the with the show. The worst thing was, this had never happened to me before, there was no warning, and there were some important people in the audience I was hoping to impress. Oh well. The show must go on!" -Dan Wheeler "I have not stuttered but I have forgotten my lyrics and just stood there in a panic!" -Nicole Wilder |
About the Question BoardThe Question Board is a whiteboard in the music classroom and/or an online form on which students can write any music-related questions they have. They can be questions that are unrelated to what we're doing in class, questions that I student prefers to ask anonymously, or questions for our house leaders. Follow this page to see the intriguing and wide variety of questions that students are asking! Archives
